Katrina Kaif On Bagging Bharat Post Priyanka Chopra’s Exit: I’m Happy It Has Come To Me
Katrina Kaif landed the lead role in Bharat opposite Salman Khan, after Priyanka Chopra’ sudden exit. Here’s what the actress has to say about it
Salman Khan’s Bharat has been creating immense hype ever since the official trailer was unveiled. After the trailer, the makers dropped the first song called Slow-Motion and the sizzling chemistry between Salman and Disha Patani also became a talking point.
The posters that were released prior to the trailer were also lapped up by the audience and Katrina Kaif’s Madam Sir avatar grabbed enough eyeballs and praise on social media. Kat who essays the character of Kumud feels fortunate to be teaming up with filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar and Salman Khan once again after their last hit together, Tiger Zinda Hai.
However, it’s a known fact that Kat wasn’t the first choice for the part and Priyanka Chopra was initially roped in to essay the female lead. But, Peecee opted out due to her marriage with Nick Jonas and other work commitments, and the makers brought Katrina as her replacement. The actress doesn’t mind being called the second choice and is in fact happy to have earned the role.
Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Kat says, Although I wasn't Ali's first choice and it was Priyanka (Chopra), I'm happy it has come to me. When I read the character of Kumud, I felt there's so much I can do in it and I wanted to immerse myself completely into it. I just hope that I keep getting to play such exciting characters which have enough meat in them.”
The actress adds, “Atul has always been very supportive and really wanted me to do the film. And in the end, that’s what happened. Yes, Salman and I share great chemistry, but when I walked onto this set, I was very clear that the script demanded a different kind of dynamics between us and I had to maintain it.”
Bharat also stars Disha Patani, Tabu, Jackie Shroff and Sunil Grover in pivotal roles. The movie is slated to release during Eid this year.
